Our practice river is the Salza in Styria, one of the most beautiful rivers in Europe and ideal for beginners.
Schedule of our 2-day kayak course on the Salza:
Meeting point for our course is at the Basecamp Salza in Styria. After meeting your instructor he will explain the overall course, schedule and details for the upcoming days. After that you will be equipped with all the necessary gear.
In every beginners course we always start on flat water for the first day, where we show you the right use of the material, the correct way to exit the boat once it capsized and of course the first basic paddling strokes. Our goal is to give you control and confidence in your kayak, before we head to the first river section.
Kayaking on the longest untouched whitewater river in Austria
As our next step we move to a beginners friendly section of the Salza river where we make our first kilometers on the river on easy whitewater (grade 1-2). We learn and practice basic techniques like catching eddies, ferry gliding and much more. The Salza river is with its over 50 kilometers of untouched whitewater the longest remaining whitewater section in Austria, and therefore offers a great variety for our kayak courses.
